KCS appoints Grimes AVP of business development

Kansas City Southern recently named Avery Grimes assistant vice president of business development. Reporting to Vice President of Sales and Marketing-Carload Business Unit Owen Zidar, Grimes will be responsible for developing new revenue opportunities and integrating the railroad’s operating capabilities with the sales and marketing department’s revenue goals.

A registered professional engineer and licensed locomotive engineer, Grimes most recently served international consulting firms providing services to railroads in the United States, Mexico and United Kingdom. He previously held positions at the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific railroads in transportation planning, engineering, service measurement and design, finance and risk management. Grimes also served a stint as adjunct professor at the University of Denver’s Intermodal Transportation Institute.
