After a three-month search, Kansas City Southern has found the person to take the reins at TFM S.A. de C.V. Today, KCS announced TFM’s board appointed Francisco Javier Rión chief executive officer of TFM.

He succeeds Vicente Corta Fernandez, who had been serving as interim CEO since April, when KCS acquired a controlling interest in TFM from Grupo TMM S.A. A partner in law firm White & Case S.C., Corta will continue to serve as TFM’s counsel in Mexico.

A Mexican national fluent in Spanish and English, Rión most recently served as president of Bombardier Transportation’s Rail Control Solutions Division in London. He previously completed a nearly six-year stint as Bombardier's president and managing director in Mexico City, and spent four years as general director of Dina Autobuses/ConsorcioG-Grupo Dina in Mexico City.

Rión also previously held a number of operations, manufacturing and engineering management positions with Ford Motor Co. S.A. de C.V., and served as a member of the North American Advisory Committee of the Mexican Investment Board.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Rión, a distinguished Mexican businessman with nearly 30 years of experience in the transportation industry, to TFM,” said TFM Chairman, and KCS Chairman, President and CEO Mike Haverty in a prepared statement.
