Yesterday, Union Pacific Railroad named Shane Keller general superintendent of transportation services for the San Antonio Service Unit.

He will be responsible for operational and safety performance at the unit, which manages more than 1,500 track miles in southwestern Texas, employs more than 1,300 people and moves about 60 trains daily to serve more than 160 shippers. The unit moves trains to and from Mexico, and between east-west transcontinental points.

Keller most recently served as general superintendent of transportation services for UP's North Platte Service Unit. He previously served as superintendent of transportation services for the St. Louis Service Unit, where safety improved about 40 percent in 2002 and 2003.

Since joining UP as a student intern in 1990, Keller also has served in various other operating capacities, including management and director positions in the railroad's Chicago, North Little Rock, Ark., and Fort Worth, Texas, locomotive shops.
