Yesterday, Delaware Transit Corp. (DTC) announced Executive Director Stephen Kingsberry will step down from his post on Oct. 31 to become deputy director for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Kingsberry has served as executive director since 2005; he joined the agency in 1999 as development director. Kingsberry previously served the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority and New Jersey Transit in various capacities.

DTC operates as DART First State, which provides state-funded commuter-rail service under contract with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, as well as bus, paratransit, rideshare services.

Kingsberry has been a “tireless advocate” for expanded transit service in the state and helped grow annual ridership more than 30 percent from 9.2 million to more than 12 million trips, including more than 1.1 million commuter-rail trips, said Delaware Secretary of Transportation Shailen Bhatt in a prepared statement.

DTC plans to conduct a national search for Kingsberry’s successor. In the meantime, Director of Operations John McGinnis will serve as acting director.
