Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti late last week announced the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has launched a global executive search to fill the the top post at the Port of Los Angeles.

Former Executive Director Geraldine Knatz retired in October 2013 after leading the port for nearly eight years. Gary Lee Moore has been serving as interim executive director since November 2013.

The board established an ad hoc committee to oversee the search process and hired executive recruitment firm Ralph Andersen & Associates to recruit and screen prospective candidates. The board is accepting nominations and submittals from interested candidates until April 14.

"We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic leader with a strong track record of success — a true collaborator and visionary who can lead the port’s growth and international trade efforts in the years ahead," said Garcetti in a press release.

Adds Board President Vilma Martinez: "We will be searching for that uncommon executive who can … help assure our continued position as the No. 1 container port in the U.S.”
