The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently named Helen Lew to the newly created position of inspector general. She will assume the post April 30.
Lew currently serves as assistant inspector general for audit at the U.S. Department of Education. At WMATA, she will investigate contracts, and fraud, waste and abuse complaints; scrutinize departmental activities and programs; review policies; and issue recommendations. Lew will report directly to the board.
She previously led audits, evaluations and analyses of information technology and financial management issues for major federal agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Government Accountability Office.
