The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) board recently elected Gladys Mack to serve a one-year term as chairman.
A District of Columbia representative, Mack will succeed Dana Kauffman, whose term ended yesterday. Kauffman will continue to serve the board as a Virginia representative.
Mack has served as a board member from 1979 to 1991, and from 1995 to the present. She previously held posts as chairman and member of the board budget committee, and served a stint as board chairman. Currently chief operating officer for D.C. community action agency United Planning Organization, Mack previously served as assistant city administrator for budget and resource development, director of the Mayor’s Office of Policy and Program Evaluation, and chair of the D.C. Board of Parole.
The board also elected Maryland representative Charles Deegan first vice chairman and Virginia representative Chris Zimmerman, second vice chairman.
