On July 1, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA) will swear in Los Angeles Mayor-elect Antonio Villaraigosa as board chairman.
He will succeed Lancaster Mayor Frank Roberts.
During his one-year term, Villaraigosa says he will begin implementing an "ambitious" transportation agenda that includes expanding LA MTA’s rail system during the next 15 years, according to a prepared statement.
Villaraigosa previously served as a LA MTA board member between August 2003 and September 2004. He also served on the board of LA MTA predecessor agency Southern California Rapid Transit District between 1991 and 1994.
