Lytle might succeed Steinke as Long Beach port's executive director

Today, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners expects to vote on whether to name J. Christopher Lytle executive director to succeed Richard Steinke, who plans to retire after holding the Port of Long Beach’s top post the past 14 years.
Lytle currently is the California port’s deputy executive director and chief operating officer; he has served as deputy executive director since March 2008. Lytle joined the port in 2006 as one of four managing directors.
He previously was vice president of CMA CGM and held various executive positions at P&O Ports North America, Sea-Land Service Inc. and APM (Maersk) Terminals.
“Chris’ extensive public and private experience make him the ideal leader for our port,” said Commission President Susan Anderson Wise in a prepared statement. “On the private side, he’s operated shipping terminals around the world, and he fully understands the unique issues facing public ports in California.”
