MTA Staten Island Railway appoints Librera VP, chief officer

Sally Librera was named vice president and chief officer of MTA Staten Island Railway.

Most recently, Librera served as VP for subway operations support at MTA New York City Transit (NYCT), where her responsibilities included financial management, employee safety, workforce development and planning.

During her time at NYCT, Librera led technical training for subway employees and technicians in the track, electrical and infrastructure departments.

Librera joined the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in 2004 as a transportation planner and advanced to leadership positions in logistics and employee development.

"Sally's leadership and experience in our subways operations are huge assets to the operations of Staten Island Railway, in particular her extensive knowledge of the training that is critical to running every aspect of a transit system," said NYCT Acting President Darryl Irick.

Librera's appointment comes as Staten Island Railway continues a major rebuilding effort after Hurricane Sandy severely damaged track infrastructure and critical facilities in 2012. The railroad is building a new mechanical repair shop to replace the Clifton facility that was flooded during the storm and upgrading the St. George interlocking to improve service reliability.

Librera succeeds Douglas Connett, who took the leadership role in June 2015 and retired last year.
