Marier to lead Canada's Transportation Safety Board

Yoan Marier has been appointed the new chairperson of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), effective Aug. 21. He will serve a four-year term.
Marier succeeds Kathy Fox, who has served the TSB for 17 years, including 10 years as chair.
A TSB member since September 2020, Marier has several years of experience in federally regulated transportation, regulatory compliance and access to justice.
He previously served the Social Security Tribunal of Canada for nearly four years as a member, acting vice chair and coordinating member. Marier also worked for Transport Canada between 2014 and 2016 in dangerous goods transportation, focusing on regulatory compliance. Earlier in his career, he was a commercial pilot in the Montreal area.
An independent agency, the TSB has up to five members, including a chair. The board's mandate is to advance safety in the air, marine, pipeline and rail sectors by conducting independent investigations, identifying safety deficiencies, making recommendations and publicly reporting its findings.
