On Friday, Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (GWI) announced Vice Chairman Charles Marshall had retired but would continue to assist the short-line holding company as a consultant.
Vice chairman since May 2005, Marshall previously served GWI as president and chief operating officer. His 35-year railroading career also included stints at Conrail, Southern Railway and the Chessie System, where he held various management positions. In addition, Marshall served as a consultant to the rail industry and specialized in developing U.S. and international acquisition opportunities.
“In addition to his leadership and counsel, Charlie brought a perspective and understanding of the railroad industry that has been invaluable to our success,” said GWI Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mortimer Fuller III in a prepared statement.
GWI owns and operates regionals and short lines in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and Bolivia.
