On April 16, Maryland Department of Transportation appointed David Ganovski to head the new Office of Freight Logistics, which is charged with facilitating interaction between the state's transportation agencies, and railroads and trucking firms.

Ganovski most recently served the Maryland Transit Administration in various capacities since 1996. He previously served CSX Transportation as director of sales and marketing, and in several intermodal, operations and planning positions.

"Dave will be a key player by ensuring we continue to look at the big picture on how every aspect of freight fits together from ship and air to rail and truck," said Maryland Transportation Secretary Robert Flanagan in a prepared statement.

The logistics office aims to reduce railroad and highway congestion caused by freight flowing from the Port of Baltimore and Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Maryland's transportation network includes more than 800 miles of rail and 16,000 lane miles of highways.
