Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Chief of Police Douglas DeLeaver has resigned to pursue private sector opportunities, according to the agency.

DeLeaver, who has held the MTA post the past six years, previously spent 38 years serving various state of Maryland police agencies.

To fill in for DeLeaver, MTA named Lieutenant Colonel David Franklin acting chief of police. Prior to joining MTA in 2000, he worked for the Maryland State Police.
