The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has appointed Jackie DeWolfe director of sustainable mobility, MassDOT Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Stephanie Pollack announced last week.

In the newly created position, DeWolfe will coordinate the department's activities to enhance multimodal transportation access across the state and pilot new ideas, MassDOT officials said in a press release.

One key part of the job involves "convening multidisciplinary partners from across MassDOT and coordinating with municipal partners, other state agencies and nonprofit partners to drive change that will help the state meet its healthy transportation goals," department officials said.

In addition, DeWolfe will be closely involved with the newly launched "Complete Streets" program, which provides municipalities funding to design and construct projects to make streets safer and more welcoming for users of public transit, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

Prior to joining MassDOT, DeWolfe was executive director of the LivableStreets Alliance, a nonprofit that advocates for more complete street designs. She also served as an independent consultant providing strategic planning, public engagement facilitation and transportation trainings to public, private and civic organizations across the United States.
