Norfolk Southern Corp. recently named Howard McFadden corporate secretary, effective March 1, to succeed Dezora Martin, who will retire next month. McFadden will report to Executive Vice President of Law and Corporate Relations James Hixon.

Most recently a general tax attorney, McFadden joined NS as a tax department attorney in 2001.

Martin, a 35-year railroad industry veteran who joined the railroad in 1972, had served as corporate secretary since 1995.

Meanwhile, Kansas City Southern appointed John Derry VP of human resources. He will manage human resources functions for The Kansas City Southern Railway Co. and advise Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. on HR matters.

Derry most recently served YRCW-Yellow Transportation as VP of human resources. He previously held various HR and operations posts at Edy's-Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream and General Mills Inc.
