Metra has promoted Kevin McCann to chief operating officer, effective July 1. He will assume the post when current COO Bruce Marcheschi retires.
McCann rose through the Chicago commuter railroad's ranks to become head of the agency’s mechanical department. As COO and deputy executive director for operations, he will lead all aspects of Metra’s operations, including its three operating arms: the transportation, mechanical and engineering departments.
McCann also will oversee safety, rules, regulatory and environmental compliance, operations training, and T&E training and certification, Metra officials said in a press release.
McCann was named chief mechanical in January 2018. In that role, he oversees all activities of Metra's mechanical department, including field operations, shop operations, engineering and planning, asset management, reliability-centered maintenance and state of good repairs. He joined Metra in 1996 as a carman after previously working for Midway Airlines and Norfolk Southern Railway.
