Metrolink in Southern California has promoted Kimberly Yu to chief operating officer.

Since she joined the commuter railroad in September 2015, she has served as deputy COO for planning and project delivery.

During her tenure, Yu has helped develop a more transparent budget process, led efforts to improve fare collection and created key performance indicators for departments, according to a Metrolink press release.

"Kimberly is a strong fit for Metrolink's enduring mission of providing safe, efficient, dependable and on-time transportation service," said Metrolink Chief Executive Officer Art Leahy. "Under the direction of retiring COO Gary Lettengarver, Kimberly led six operational departments while coordinating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe rail operations."

Before her time at Metrolink, Yu served as deputy COO at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
