Metrolink taps Filippi to head safety, security

Metrolink has appointed Don Filippi director of system safety and security, effective Dec. 17.
He most recently served as chief operating officer for rail for the North County Transit District. Filippi has 24 years' experience in transportation, including more than five years at the California Public Utilities Commission, where he advanced to the position of superintendent of transit operations and safety section.
He also previously served Union Pacific Railroad for 14 years, starting as a conductor and rising to manager of operations.
At Metrolink, Filippi will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for rail passengers, employees and community members, and maintaining partnerships with federal and local law enforcement agencies, Metrolink officials said in a press release. He also will lead initiatives to develop and implement measures systemwide to enhance safety performance and organizational culture, and oversee programs aimed at preventing and responding to train incidents.
"Don will provide leadership and oversight to advance [our] commitment to [an] industry-leading safety culture," said Ronnie Campbell, Metrolink’s interim co-chief executive officer.
