The leadership transition continues at Norfolk Southern Corp. Yesterday, the Class I announced President Charles "Wick" Moorman will succeed David Goode as chief executive officer on Nov. 1. Goode will continue to serve as chairman until he retires at the end of January 2006.
The transition began in October 2004, when Moorman was appointed president and assumed one of Goode’s three titles.
"Wick has honed his leadership skills and is prepared to take on even greater responsibility," said Goode in a prepared statement.
Since joining NS in 1970, Moorman has held various senior positions in transportation, personnel, labor relations, information technology and strategic planning, including senior vice president of corporate planning and services, and president of subsidiary Thoroughbred Technology and Telecommunications.
Meanwhile, NS also named James Hixon executive vice president of law and corporate relations, effective Oct. 1. He will be responsible for the law, government relations and corporate communications departments.
Most recently EVP of finance and public affairs, Hixon previously served as SVP of legal and government affairs, SVP of administration, and VP of employee relations and general tax counsel.
