The North American Rail Shippers Association (NARS) has named Tom Tisa its new president, the association announced in a September newsletter.

Tisa is head of marketing and strategic development at CSX, where his responsibilities involve short-line engagement and port activity.

"His background rings a valuable perspective to NARS," association officials said in the newsletter. "He views consistent, reliable service as one of the biggest conversation topics for its members."

Tisa began his railroad career in 1989 with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway's (now BNSF Railway Co.) marketing department. He also worked for Illinois Central Railroad and CN.

"Service is critical for rail customers to be competitive in their markets,” Tisa said. “Good service also is good business for railroads to increase volumes and manage costs.”

Tisa's involvement with NARS began with his membership with the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers, where he also served as president.

As president of NARS, he said he plans to focus on improving communication tools, increasing industry exposure and growing membership.

“The most rewarding part of being associated with NARS is the value we create for industry professionals by developing agendas with high-level executives and providing networking opportunities,” Tisa said.
