New Jersey Transit President and CEO Kevin Corbett will resign effective Jan. 15, 2025, to accept a new position in academia, Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Monday.
Murphy nominated Corbett in 2018 to serve as the agency's executive director. Over the past seven years, Corbett has played a vital role in making the state’s mass transit system more accessible, accordable and reliable, according to a press release from the governor's office.
Although Murphy's office hasn't announce a successor, former New Jersey Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri will serve as interim president and CEO until Murphy's administration ends in January 2026, according to a report in New Jersey Business Magazine.
In his resignation letter, Corbett said he looks forward to continuing to champion public transportation in his new role. He did not identify which New Jersey university he will serve.
Corbett's letter cites the full implementation of positive train control (PTC) as one of his proudest achievements at NJ Transit.
“Kevin has worked in coordination with our federal government, Amtrak and our Legislature to develop strategic plans and solutions that address commuters’ concerns and position NJ Transit for long-term reliability and success,” said Murphy. “His leadership and service to the people of New Jersey has been unwavering and I wish him the best as he begins this next chapter.”
