Norfolk Southern Corp.’s David Goode is passing his last hat to Wick Moorman. Yesterday, the Class I announced its board approved the appointment of President and CEO Moorman as chairman to succeed Goode, effective Feb. 1. Goode — who plans to retire at January’s end — will continue to serve as a board member until NS’ annual stockholder meeting in May.

Moorman previously succeeded Goode as president in October 2004 and chief executive officer in November 2005. Since joining NS in 1970, Moorman has held various senior positions in transportation, personnel, labor relations, information technology and strategic planning, including senior vice president of corporate planning and services, and president of subsidiary Thoroughbred Technology and Telecommunications.

“Wick Moorman and his team will guide us to even higher levels of safety and service,” said Goode in a prepared statement.

NS’ board also elected Daniel Carp — who retired as Eastman Kodak Co.’s chairman and CEO earlier this month — as a director. Since joining Eastman Kodak in 1970, Carp previously held stints as executive vice president and assistant chief operating officer, and president and CEO.
