NS names Moorman president, promotes six other officers

David Goode is removing one of his three hats at Norfolk Southern Corp. Today, the Class I announced Charles Moorman was elected president, effective Oct. 1. President since 1992, Goode — who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 65 in January 2006 — will continue to serve as chairman and chief executive officer.

Moorman most recently served as senior vice president of corporate planning and services. Since joining NS in 1970, he has served in various senior positions in transportation, personnel, labor relations, information technology and strategic planning, including president of subsidiary Thoroughbred Technology and Telecommunications.

Vice Chairman and Chief Marketing Officer L.I. "Ike" Prillaman, Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Stephen Tobias, and Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer Henry Wolf will report to Moorman.

NS also announced it has promoted:
• James Hixon, from senior vice president of legal and government
affairs to executive vice president of finance and public affairs;
• Mark Manion, from SVP of transportation operations to EVP of operations;
• Kathryn McQuade, from SVP of finance to EVP of planning and chief information officer;
• John Rathbone, from SVP of administration to EVP of administration;
• Donald Seale, from SVP of marketing services to EVP of sales and marketing; and
• James Squires, from VP of law to SVP of law.
