The National Mediation Board (NMB) recently appointed Harry Hoglander chairman to succeed Edward Fitzmaurice Jr., whose term expired. The three-member board elects a new chairman annually.
Elizabeth Dougherty and Read Van de Water will continue to serve as NMB members.
A board member since August 2002, Hoglander previously served as NMB chairman from July 2004 to June 2005. Prior to joining the board, he served as a legislative specialist for U.S. Congressman John Tierney, labor representative for the U.S. Aviation Bi-Lateral Delegation, master chairman of the TWA Master Executive Council, executive vice president of the Air Line Pilots Association and captain for Trans World Airlines.
An independent federal agency established by the Railway Labor Act, the NMB governs labor-management relations for about 500 railroads and 100 airlines in the United States.
