New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) recently named three executives.

The authority appointed Susan Kupferman chief operating officer, a position she’s held on an interim basis for the past 10 months. She previously was president of MTA Bridges & Tunnels and served as director of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Operations under Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

MTA also appointed Ben Fernandez director of labor relations to succeed Gary Dellaverson, who had served as acting director in addition to his role as chief financial officer. Fernandez most recently was VP for human resources for Verizon’s Puerto Rico Telephone Co. in San Juan. He has held similar positions at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in Manhattan.

Finally, the authority named Projjal Dutta director of sustainability initiatives. Most recently director of sustainable strategies for architectural and engineering firm STV Inc., Dutta was the primary author of environmental guidelines for MTA New York City Transit and manager of sustainability for the preliminary engineering phase of NYCT’s Second Avenue Subway project.
