Norfolk Southern Corp. has appointed Michael McClellan vice president strategic planning and Claude "Ed" Elkins vice president industrial products effective April 1.

McClellan, who in his new role will report to NS President and Chief Executive Officer James Squires, joined NS in 1998 as assistant VP performance planning. He became VP intermodal and automotive marketing in 2000 and VP industrial products in 2013.

Prior to joining NS, McClellan worked for Conrail's general marketing and sales.

"Mike combines a strong understanding of our markets and customers with a keen insight into how the transportation sector is evolving. Our customers and our shareholders will benefit from his experience and vision," said Squires in a press release.

Elkins joined NS as a road brakeman in 1988. After serving as a conductor and an engineer, he joined the company's marketing department as pricing coordinator. He served in positions of increasing responsibility in the intermodal and automotive group and currently serves as group VP industrial products.

"Ed brings a unique background of field operations and broad market experience," Squires said. "We look forward to his increased contributions to our leadership team."
