North Carolina's Triangle Transit Authority appoints King interim GM

The Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) recently named David King interim general manager to succeed John Claflin, who resigned from the authority last month.

King, who joined the North Carolina Department of Transportation in 1973, most recently served as the department’s deputy secretary. During his tenure, King helped launch TTA’s regional bus, vanpool and carpool services, and a statewide rail station improvement program. He also has served as a member of the States for Passenger Rail Coalition, a 25-state organization that aims to improve passenger-rail service.

TTA currently is developing a regional rail system that would run between Raleigh and Durham, N.C. In late August, the authority removed its proposed project from the Federal Transit Administration’s New Starts process due to changes in federal funding criteria. Officials now are exploring other funding options.
