California's North County Transit District (NCTD) recently named Matthew Tucker executive director to succeed Karen King, who resigned in May. He will take the agency's reins on Jan. 5, 2009, replacing interim manager Ray Patchett.
Tucker most recently was director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, a position he was appointed to in 2006 by Gov. Timothy Kaine. Tucker previously served as chief executive officer of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
NCTD operates light- and commuter-rail, and bus service in North San Diego County.
