Northern Central Railway of York (NCR) has promoted Jennifer Krieg to superintendent operations manager. In that role, she will oversee and maintain the excursion railroad's historic locomotives and passenger cars.
Located in New Freedom, Pennsylvania, the railroad and nonprofit educational organization provides rail-based experiences to visitors of all ages.
Krieg’s appointment is monumental because it makes NCR predominantly female-led for the first time, NCR officials said in a press release. Ashley Zimmerman is NCR's executive director, and Jody Anderson Leighty chairs the board of directors.
Krieg began her career at NCR in 2020 as a fireman on the railroad’s 1860s-replica steam engine. Later, she became an engineer for both the steam engine and a GP-9 diesel engine.
“I am excited to step into this new role and leverage my expertise and industry experience to help Northern Central Railway of York keep their beloved trains and passenger cars in strong, working order,” said Krieg.
