The Orange County Transportation Authority yesterday named Johnny Dunning Jr. chief operating officer.

Dunning has been serving as the California transit agency's interim COO since January. He has 25 years of transit industry experience, OCTA officials said in a press release.

As COO, he is responsible for leading agency's commuter-rail, streetcar and bus systems. He will also oversee vehicle and facilities maintenance.

Dunning joined OCTA in 2017 as department manager for scheduling and bus operations support. Prior to that, he was service planning manager for the North County Transit District and in planning positions at the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.

"Johnny has ... clearly demonstrated his strong leadership, effectively guiding the operations team to deliver on our mission of providing safe and reliable transit services for the people of Orange County," said OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson.
