OmniTRAX Inc. recently added another RailAmerica Inc. veteran to its senior staff. On Feb. 9, the short-line holding company named Carl Hollowell Western Region vice president of operations and president of Great Western Railway of Colorado L.L.C.

He will be responsible for growing the 80-mile short line's business along Colorado's Front Range area, and starting up and overseeing service for Owens-Illinois Inc.'s new bottle manufacturing plant in Windsor, Colo., which is scheduled to open in January 2005.

Hollowell previously served RailTex Inc. and RailAmerica — which acquired RailTex in 2000 — more than 14 years, most recently as general manager of the 73-mile Chesapeake & Albemarle Railroad Co., 54-mile North Carolina & Virginia Railroad Co., and 72-mile Virginia Southern Railroad. Prior to RailTex/RailAmerica, he served Chevron Corp.'s Kazakhstan operation in various capacities and the 276-mile Salt Lake City Southern Railroad as general manager.

"I have known Carl for many years, and his organizational skills quickly implement themselves throughout an organization," said OmniTRAX Chief Operating Officer Robert Parker in a prepared statement. A former RailAmerica senior vice president, Parker joined OmniTRAX in August 2003 as executive vice president-rail and recently was named COO.
