The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) recently appointed J. Michael Patterson director to succeed Gary Ridley, who retired on March 31. Ridley will continue to serve as the state's transportation secretary.
Patterson has served as ODOT's deputy director and chief financial officer since 2010. Since joining the department in 1980, he has held such posts as assistant director of finance and administration, comptroller and deputy comptroller. Patterson currently is vice chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance and Administration for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
"In his three decades with ODOT, Mike has been instrumental in working with the state Legislature and governor to ensure that transportation is a top priority in Oklahoma," said Ridley in a prepared statement.
Ridley served ODOT for 44 years, including 12 years as director. His prior posts included field maintenance manager, division maintenance engineer, division engineer and assistant director for operations.
"Throughout his 44 years in public service, Gary has been a champion for transportation and has dedicated himself to improving the transportation system for all Oklahomans," said Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin. "He will be sorely missed at the department, but I look forward to his continued service and expertise as transportation secretary."
