Peabody Energy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gregory Boyce recently was named chairman of the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Coal Industry Advisory Board (CIAB). Boyce had served as the board's deputy chairman since November 2010.

Established in 1979, the CIAB comprises a group of chief executives and other senior-level officials from coal-related industrial enterprises around the world. The board serves as a forum to help the IEA's governing board on a range of issues pertaining to coal production, transportation, trade and utilization.

Boyce joined Peabody Energy in 2003 as president and chief operating officer, assumed the role of president and CEO in 2006, and became chairman the following year. He previously was CEO-energy for international mining company Rio Tinto, president and CEO of Kennecott Energy Co., president of Kennecott Minerals Co. and executive assistant to the vice chairman at Standard Oil of Ohio.

"As chairman, I will ensure that the CIAB continues to work with the IEA Secretariat to promote global energy security and find solutions to global energy challenges," said Boyce in a prepared statement.
