Gulf & Atlantic Railways LLC (GAR) has appointed David Pederson vice president of multimodal logistics. Pederson joined GAR in October 2023 following GAR;s acquisition of Pioneer Valley Railroad (PVRR) and Railroad Distribution Services (RDS) from Pinsly Railroad Co., where he served as VP and general manager for both short lines.
In his new role, Pederson will be responsible for working alongside GAR's business development team to replicate the RDS model on other GAR short lines. Pederson will be succeeded by Matt Lane, who is being promoted to general manager of PVRR/RDS. Lane joined Arkansas Midland Railroad Co., then owned by Pinsly, in 1999 as a trainman. He assumed various leadership roles before transferring to PVRR in 2017 to serve as assistant general manager.
Meanwhile, J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. has appointed of Shelley Simpson as president and CEO. She was also nominated for election to the company's board of directors. Simpson has served as the company’s president since August 1, 2022.
The company also announced that Kirk Thompson, current executive chairman of the board, along with Wayne Garrison, will both retire from the company’s board of directors and will take newly formed board advisory roles as honorary founding directors.
