Pioneer Lines has hired Matthew Service as senior vice president of corporate development.

Service will be part of Pioneer’s senior leadership team and oversee the company’s growth objectives. He has 15 years of short-line and Class I railroading experience.

Prior to joining Pioneer, Service was chief operating officer and EVP for Patriot Rail and Ports, where he oversaw rail operations across the United States and led mergers and acquisitions. He began his railroad career with OmniTRAX Inc. and also has held senior roles with CSX.

"Matt has the experience, creativity and energy to implement our disciplined investment strategy and to drive the opportunities that lie ahead," said Pioneer Lines President and CEO Alex Yeros in a press release.

Service joins Pioneer nearly two years after new ownership assumed control of the company. In his new role, Service will work to expand the company’s portfolio, geographic presence, industry relationships and service offerings across the United States, Pioneer officials said.
