Today, in recognition of International Women's Day, Progressive Railroading is publishing its first "Women of Influence In Rail" ebook, a collection of profiles of women who've established successful careers in railroading.
International Women's Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.
When it comes to opening doors to women, the rail industry is making progress, but still has a long way to go: Women represent less than 5% of the rail workforce, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Many rail leaders acknowledge the industry needs to change that statistic and find ways to recruit and retain more women at their companies. As part of that effort, those companies have embraced diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to create a workforce that reflects the customers and communities they serve.
"Women of Influence in Rail" highlights interviews or profiles of eight women who are at various stages of their rail careers. They are examples of the many women who've broken through barriers to find success in railroading.
