Last week, the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) announced Director Karen Rae will resign, effective Feb. 22.

She will join the commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Secretariat of Transportation as deputy secretary of transportation, a position responsible for public transportation and passenger-rail programs.

During her more than three-year tenure as the Virginia agency’s director, Rae helped implement DPRT’s first-ever six-year public transportation funding program and the commonwealth’s first dedicated funding source for rail. The agency also began preliminary engineering on the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project after 40 years of planning.
