RailWorks appoints transit division president, two risk management department heads

RailWorks Corp. recently promoted Ronald Smith to president of the National Transit division.

With more than 25 years’ experience in transit, power and industrial construction, he joined RailWorks subsidiary L.K. Comstock & Co. in 1993. Smith since has led a number of transit projects, including an automated people mover project at Washington Dulles International Airport.

RailWorks also appointed Joseph Spirito vice president of the newly formed risk management department. He will be responsible for insurance and related coverage, claims management, safety and regulatory compliance, asset management and disaster recovery. Spirito has more than 25 years’ experience in the insurance and construction industries, most recently as director of risk management for Railroad Construction Co.

Finally, RailWorks promoted Bill Field to director of safety. He joined RailWorks in 2001 following a 20-year Conrail career.

RailWorks provides track construction and other contracting services to North American freight and passenger railroads.
