Regional Rail LLC has promoted Pete Petree to vice president of strategic projects.

He will lead the company’s strategic growth initiatives, including expansion into new markets through acquisitions, as well as mutually beneficial partnership opportunities, Regional Rail officials said in a press release. Previously, Petree served as VP of Regional Rail’s freight operations in the southeastern U.S.

Petree has more than 40 years of freight-rail operating experience and previously served in senior roles at Pinsly Railroad Co., R.J. Corman Railroad Group LLC and CSX before joining Regional Rail in January 2020.

Concurrent with Pete’s promotion, Regional Rail promoted Matt Schwerin to VP of the southern region. Schwerin joined Regional Rail in January 2020 following a career with R.J. Corman Railroad Group and CSX. In his new role, Schwerin will oversee Regional Rail’s day-to-day operations throughout the southeastern U.S.

Owned by 3i Group plc, Regional Rail operates seven short lines and provides various services, such as transloading, rail-car storage, and signaling installation and maintenance.
