A retired Union Pacific Railroad executive isn’t ready for the golf course or a bridge game just yet. Yesterday, Thayer Capital Partners announced Ivor “Ike” Evans has joined the firm as an operating partner.

Evans, 62, retired as UP vice chairman Feb. 28. He previously served the railroad as president and chief operating officer from 1998 to 2004.

Prior to UP, Evans spent 10 years at Emerson Electric Co. in a number of executive capacities, including senior vice president of industrial components and equipment, and 21 years at General Motors Corp. He also previously served as president of Blackstone Corp.

A private equity investment firm, Thayer Capital Partners manages equity funds and middle-market leveraged buyouts in the industrial products and services sectors.
