Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) of the San Francisco Bay Area late last month unanimously elected Scott Haggerty as chair.

Haggerty has served for the past two years as MTC's vice chair, and has represented Alameda County on the commission since 2000. He previously served as MTC chair from 2009 to 2011.

As chair, he succeeds Rohnert Park City Councilman Jake Mackenzie. Napa County Supervisor Alfredo Pedroza will serve as MTC's vice chair for the next two years.

Haggerty is a member of the Alameda County Transportation Commission, San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission, Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority, Tri-Valley Transportation Council, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the Association of Bay Area Governments and the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Authority.

He was elected to a two-year term running through February 2021.

Three of MTC's seats changed hands earlier this month: San Francisco Supervisor Hillary Ronen succeeded Jane Kimas, the representative of the city and county of San Francisco; Millbrae City Councilwoman Gina Papan succeeded Redwood City Councilwoman Alicia Aguirre as the representative for the San Mateo County cities; and Sonoma County Supervisor David Rabbitt succeeded Julie Pierce as the representative for the Association of Bay Area Governments.
