Yesterday, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) named Michael Burns general manager, effective Aug. 22.
He will be responsible for VTA’s $340 million operating budget and 2,300 employees; light-rail and bus operations; and a $4 billion Measure A transit improvement program, which includes a Bay Area Rapid Transit extension to Santa Clara County, Caltrain improvements and light-rail extensions.
Burns currently serves as executive director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. With more than 30 years’ experience in the transportation industry, he previously held management stints at Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation and Massachusetts Bay Transportation authorities.
