The Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad Co. (RBMN) announced it appointed Dennis Shaffer vice president of business development, effective Aug. 20.
He most recently was general manager of the Norfolk Southern Railway’s Thoroughbred Bulk Transfer Terminal in Sunbury, Pa. Shaffer has a broad range of executive experience in the railroad and distribution business, and has held senior-level positions in operations, marketing, finance, and planning for several major railroads, RBMN officials said in a prepared statement.
His previous roles include assistant VP of pricing and marketing for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad, VP of marketing for the North Shore Railroad Co., and the Twin Cities and Western Railroad Co.’s first president. In addition, Shaffer helped start up the Iowa Interstate Railroad Ltd. and served on the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority’s board for 10 years.
“He has had considerable hands-on experience in successfully organizing and starting new railroad and distribution ventures,” RBMN officials said.
The privately held RBMN operates 320 miles of track in northeastern Pennsylvania.
