Sound Transit officials have appointed Michael Harbour deputy chief executive officer, effective Oct. 29.
Harbour, a 17-year veteran of Intercity Transit in Olympia, Wash., has more than 35 years of experience in the public transportation industry, with 25 of them spent leading transit organizations, Sound Transit CEO Joni Earl said in a prepared statement.
At Intercity Transit, he was credited with maintaining strong community involvement and high employee morale, while guiding the organization through “significant” funding challenges, Sound Transit officials said. Previously, Harbour served as general manager of the Chatham Area Transportation Authority in Savannah, Ga., for eight years.
Under his leadership, Intercity Transit and the Chatham Area Transportation Authority were both recognized by the American Public Transportation Association for outstanding achievement and excellence, said Earl.
As deputy CEO, Harbour will manage the planning and construction of more than 30 miles of light-rail extensions in the coming decade, and will lead the agency’s annual budget process, she said.
