Sound Transit has appointed Jonte Robinson chief officer of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Robinson has served Sound Transit since 2015, most recently as the acting chief officer of diversity, equity and inclusion. Prior to that, she helped establish the agency's equal employment opportunity (EEO) program, lead its Title VI program and served as deputy director of civil rights, Sound Transit officials said in a press release.

In 2017, Sound Transit established the Office of EEO, Equity and Inclusion to oversee its EEO program, advance equity initiatives across the agency and create a culture of inclusion.

Key priorities for Robinson include leading Sound Transit's anti-racist strategy focused on economic development opportunities, career development, community partnerships and accountability.

Meanwhile, Baltimore Washington Rapid Rail (BWRR) recently announced its own diversity efforts with a diversity, equity and inclusion plan for economic opportunity.

The plan is designed to increase access to contracts and wages for many of Maryland’s disadvantaged and disenfranchised communities, BWRR officials said in a press release.

The goal is to deliver billions of dollars worth of economic benefits to communities of color, women and their businesses in constructing and operating a $13 billion high-speed rail project.
