Sound Transit's board yesterday announced the unanimous re-election of Kent Keel as chair.

The board also unanimously re-elected King County Executive Dow Constantine as vice chair and elected Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers as vice chair. All will serve a one-year term through 2022.

Keel has been at the helm of the Seattle-based transit agency for two years. Hehas prioritized continuity during 2022, as the board works to find a new CEO to succeed outgoing Peter Rogoff and advance the agency’s transit expansion program.

Sound Transit remains on track to complete 36 more miles of light rail by 2024, agency officials said in a press release.

"The Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension is the next stop on our journey to more than doubling the reach of Link light rail by 2024,” Keel said. “We certainly have a lot of work ahead of us — but we are undivided, focused, committed and ready for the challenge."
