Late last week, the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority's (SFRTA) board named Jack Stephens interim executive director.
He succeeds Joseph Giulietti, who is leaving the authority Jan. 31 to become president of MTA Metro-North Railroad in New York City. Stephens has served as SFRTA's deputy executive director since May 2003.
As deputy executive director, Stephens was responsible for the authority's day-to-day management. He also was responsible for negotiating with outside agencies' developers and contractors at the direction of the board or executive director.
"As sad as we are to see Joe Giulietti leave for the presidency of Metro-North, we are fortunate to have a seasoned professional with more than 20 years of experience in the transportation industry step in," said SFRTA Chairman Steven Abrams in a press release. "With 10 of those years spent at the SFRTA, Jack already understands all facets of the authority."
Prior to joining the SFRTA, Stephens spent a dozen years with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) in a succession of increasingly responsible managerial positions.
