The Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) has named Scott Cummings assistant vice president of research and innovation.

TTCI is a a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads (AAR).

Cummings will lead the AAR Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) program aimed at advancing technology and innovation in railroad operations.

He will build a program focused on reducing the implementation timeline for critical industry initiatives and introducing novel approaches to advance safety, reliability, and efficiency in the rail industry, TTCI officials said in a news release.

Cummings began his career as a mechanical engineer at TTCI. More recently, he was promoted to senior scientist in 2020. He has served as a project manager for the SRI program since 2009 and has led its mechanical research team since 2018. In 2013, he was selected to participate in TTCI’s Railroad Exchange program and spent a year as a visiting professional with Norfolk Southern Railway's team on investigating derailment causes and maintenance-of-way topics.
