Tacoma Rail promotes Matheson to superintendent

Tacoma Rail, the short line owned by Tacoma Public Utilities in the state of Washington, has tapped Alan Matheson to serve as the next superintendent of the rail division. He will succeed Dale King.
Matheson will oversee the only municipally owned short line in the United States. Tacoma Rail employs more than 100 and interchanges with BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad. He spent the past 20 years at Tacoma Rail as trainmaster, roadmaster and assistant superintendent.
Prior to joining Tacoma Rail, Matheson was the general manager for American Orient Express Rail Services, where he was responsible for maintenance and refurbishment of vintage and luxury rail cars in North America. Matheson also served as a Pacific region board member for the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association from 2016-2023, and he remains active in the association.
